Wyoming Women Named a 2007 USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team

Air Force and BYU men's and BYU, Colorado State, Utah and Wyoming women's cross country teams have been honored as 2007 USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams, announced yesterday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

In all, 158 Division I women's programs received the honor.

Mark Korir Finishes as an All-American for the Second Straight Year

On Monday, junior Mark Korir earned All-American honors for the second time in his career, becoming only the third runner in University of Wyoming cross country history to do so. Korir placed 19th at this year's NCAA Cross Country Championships, held in Terre Haute, Ind.

The All-American Korir, was in the leader's pack the entire race, but got separated from the leaders when the top three made their final move.

Wyoming junior Mark Korir and senior Gretchen Johnson will run in the biggest collegiate cross country meet of the year, the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Monday, November 19th.

Not only is it the biggest meet of the year, it is a historic event for cross country as a sport.

Wyoming senior Gretchen Johnson joins junior Mark Korir as a national qualifier for the NCAA National Cross Country Championships held in Terre Haute, Indiana on Monday, November 12th.

On the women's side, the individual qualifiers from the Mountain Region were UW's Johnson, Weber State's Sariah Long and Morgan Haws, and Southern Utah's Sharla Platt.

Junior Mark Korir and senior Gretchen Johnson led the Cowboys and Cowgirls to two ninth place finishes for the University of Wyoming cross country teams, at the NCAA Mountain Regional meet held in Riverdale, Utah. Korir placed fifth and qualified for a spot at the NCAA Championships while Johnson placed 10th and awaits a decision on if she will be joining Korir.

The University of Wyoming cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Mountain Regional meet Saturday in Riverdale, Utah. The men's 10K race will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the women's 6K will start at 12:15 at Riverside Golf Course.

Cowboy Mark Korir was the 2007 Mountain West Conference Cross CountryChampionship's runner-up for the second straight year, as the Wyoming men finished fifth and the women placed fourth, Saturday on the University of New Mexico campus.

Korir finished the race with a time of 24:48, 25 seconds behind New Mexico's Jeremy Johnson.

MWC Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships Moved

The 2007 Mountain West Conferene Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships, originally scheduled for 10 and 11 a.m., Saturday, October 27, in San Diego has been relocated due to a variety of conditions related to wildfires in the area.

The championship meets will now be run at the University of New Mexico North Golf Course in Albuquerque.

On this date in Wyoming athletics history, the Cowboy Cross Country team took first place in the meet between Utah, CSU, and #4 BYU, sparking a spirited run for the 'Pokes into the NCAA Championships.

The Cowboys entered their meet in Laramie with a new found confidence to take on the Utes, Rams and Cougars for the final meet before the conference championships.

Wyoming Men and Women Run Tough at Pre-Nationals

The University of Wyoming cross country teams competed in the Pre-National Invite today in Terre Haute, Ind., where the men placed 29th out of 39 teams and the women finished 28th out of 35 teams.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls ran against some of the elite teams in the nation and fared pretty well. This was such a big race there were four races, both the men and women getting split into two.

Junior Mark Korir had his two meet win streak snapped today at the Rocky Mountain Shootout in Boulder, Colo., and both the Wyoming men and women's cross country teams took second place overall.
