Wyoming Golfers, Past and Present, Play at a High Level during Summer Months

The University of Wyoming Golf programs are being represented on the highest amateur and professional levels this summer by current junior Sarah Fogerty, freshman Kelsey Podlesny and former Cowboy David Hearn. Both Fogerty and Podlesny qualified through sectional events to compete in the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championships, while Hearn topped a sectional field to earn a berth at the U.S. Open.

The University of Wyoming men's and women's golf teams will answer that question for themselves on Monday, May 12 in Laramie. UW team members, coaches and program supporters will attempt to play as many holes as possible in one day at Jacoby Golf Course, having solicited sponsors who promise to donate a certain amount per hole the golfer plays.

Another day of improved scores for the Wyoming Cowboy golf team on Saturday at the 2008 Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championship in Tucson, Ariz., produced another frustrating day of non-movement in the team standings.

Wyoming fired a third and final round score of 294 (+10).

The Wyoming Cowboy golf team improved their scores in the second round at the 2008 Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championship in Tucson, Ariz. on Friday, but the only problem is that so did the rest of the field.

The Cowboys turned in a team scorecard of 295 (+11) on Day Two of the league championship.

Both the talent and inexperience of the Wyoming Cowboy golf team was apparent on Thursday during the first round of the 2008 Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championship in Tucson, Ariz. As a team the Cowboys recorded 12 birdies in Round One, but they also had six holes of double-bogey or worse.

The Wyoming Cowboy golf team finished in ninth place of 14 teams following the final round at the BYU Cougar Classic in Provo on Saturday. Windy conditions sent scores higher across the board during the last 18 holes of the event. UW's third round score was 303 (+15), giving them a 54-hole total of 878 (+14).

The UC Davis Aggies successfully defended their team title on Tuesday at the sixth annual Wyoming Cowboy Classic, presented by Cleveland Golf in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The Aggies scored seven-under par (833) and came from five strokes down to win by three over runner-up and Day One leader Grand Canyon (836).

Twenty teams and an additional 20 individuals played 36 holes on Monday in the Valley of the Sun in Scottsdale, Ariz., at the sixth annual Wyoming Cowboy Classic, presented by Cleveland Golf. 120 total participants played all day at Talking Stick Golf Club under sunny, pleasant skies and finished two rounds just as darkness descended.
