University of Wyoming Cowgirl head basketball coach Joe Legerski today announced one addition to this year's recruiting class with the signing of Emma Langford to attend the University of Wyoming beginning in the fall of 2008.

For the first time in her career, Wyoming senior Hanna Zavecz was recognized by the Associated Press by earning Honorable Mention All-America accolades.

Zavecz is a three-time First Team All-MWC selection.

Shavonte Zellous scored 21 points, Sophronia Sallard had 15 and Mallorie Winn hit a huge 3-pointer with 2:27 remaining to help Pittsburgh beat Wyoming 63-58 on Saturday in the NCAA's first round. Justyna Podziemska led the No. 11 seeded Cowgirls (24-7) with 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting while Jodi Bolerjack and Hanna Zavecz each scored 10. The back-and-forth contest featured 12 ties and 10 lead changes.

For the second straight year, Wyoming senior Hanna Zavecz was among four individuals to be selected from Region 7 for the 2008 State Farm Coaches' All-America Basketball Team for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I.

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), in cooperation with State Farm, announced the 52 regional finalists Wednesday.

For the first time in school history, the Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will be a part of NCAA post season play as it was selected to participate in the 2008 Women's NCAA Tournament. It's the Cowgirls' fifth trip to post season as they have been to the WNIT four times in school history, including winning the 2007 Postseason WNIT Championship.

Utah's Leilani Mitchell was selected as the Mountain West Conference women's basketball Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year for 2007-08 as chosen by the head coaches, the MWC announced Monday. Freshman of the Year honors went to TCU's Helena Sverrisdottir, while Wyoming's Hanna Zavecz was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in her career. Utah's Elaine Elliott, who guided the Utes to their sixth MWC title, earned her fourth Coach of the Year honor.

Wyoming is the No. 3 seed after earning its highest seed, No. 2, in last year's tournament. The Cowgirls meet No. 6 seed San Diego State in the first round for the second consecutive year. Last year, Wyoming defeated San Diego State, 56-44, to advance to the semifinals. Wyoming leads the championship series, 1-0, and holds the overall series, 20-14. The Cowgirls also swept the season series this year.

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team (24-5 overall, 12-4 in the MWC) closed out the regular season with a 68-34 victory over the BYU Cougars (13-14 overall, 7-8 in the MWC) on Wednesday night in Laramie. It was the final home game for seniors Amy and Jodi Bolerjack, Justyna Podziemska, Dominique Sisk and Hanna Zavecz.

"This was a good win for us," said UW head coach Joe Legerski.

Hanna Zavecz finished with 14 points and four assists for Wyoming (23-4, 11-3 Mountain West). The Cowgirls hit three unanswered 3-pointers to cap a 25-8 run to start the game. They led 32-14 at halftime and went ahead 48-18 with 15 minutes remaining.
