Wyoming Volleyball Announces the Signing of One Student-Athlete

University of Wyoming head volleyball coach Carrie Yerty announced one addition to the 2008 recruiting class on Friday with the signing of Dani Bedore to attend UW beginning in the fall of 2008. Bedore, who is from Goodland, Kan., is transferring to UW from the University of South Carolina and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

"Dani is going to bring us Division I experience at a very high level," said Yerty.

Yerty Completes UW Volleyball Staff

University of Wyoming head volleyball coach Carrie Yerty has announced the completion of her staff with the hiring of Tony Suñga as an assistant coach and Lee Yerty as Director of Volleyball Operations.

Yerty comes to Wyoming after serving as the head volleyball coach at the University of Memphis for the past 13 seasons.

University of Wyoming head volleyball coach Pat Stangle announced on Friday that he has decided to resign his position at the University of Wyoming to pursue other career opportunities. Stangle recently completed his fourth year as the head coach of the Cowgirl Volleyball program.

"I have appreciated the opportunities that have been provided to me by both the University and the Athletics Department during the last four years," said Stangle.

Wyoming Volleyball Falls to UNLV in First Round of MWC Tournament

The Wyoming volleyball team (12-14 overall, 6-10 in the MWC) had their season ended in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament with a four game loss (12-30, 22-30, 30-27, 21-30) against the second seeded UNLV Rebels (22-5 overall, 12-4 in the MWC) on Thursday afternoon in Las Vegas.

"Obviously this was very disappointing," said UW head coach Pat Stangle.

Smith Garners Postseason Honors

Senior outside hitter Rachel Smith of the Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team was recognized on Wednesday as the Mountain West Conference announced the 2007 All-Conference Team.

Smith is averaging a team leading 4.63 kills and 5.12 points along with 2.43 digs per game, which is fourth on the team.

Cowgirl Volleyball Heads To MWC Tournament

The Wyoming volleyball team will take on the second seeded UNLV Rebels in the opening round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament on Thanksgiving Day. This is the second year in a row the two teams have met up in the tournament. Last year the Rebels beat the Cowgirls 3-0 to end UW's season.

The match is set to start at 1:30 Pacific Time, 2:30 p.m. Mountain Time, and can be seen on the Mtn. Sports Network.

The Mountain West Conference announced pairings for the 2007 Mountain West Conference Volleyball Championship which will be held Nov. 21-24 at Cox Pavilion on the campus of UNLV.

Second-seeded and 25th-ranked UNLV (21-5, 12-4 MWC) and seventh-seeded Wyoming (12-13, 6-10 MWC) will play in Thursday's quarterfinal round.

Three Cowgirl seniors played for the last time in Laramie, and the Wyoming volleyball team (12-13 overall, 6-10 in the MWC) closed out the regular conference season with a three game sweep (30-16, 30-25, 30-25) of the Air Force Academy Falcons (7-23 overall, 0-16 in the MWC) on Friday night.

The Wyoming volleyball team will play their final home match of the season, on Friday, November 16, as they host the Air Force Academy Falcons. The match is set to begin at 8:00 p.m. in the UniWyo Sports Complex.

UW enters the week with a 11-13 (.458) record overall and a 5-10 mark in conference play after a loss against the 17th ranked Colorado State Rams last week.

Angie Hellbaum Named Third Team Academic All-District VII

For the first time in her career, Angie Hellbaum, a senior on the University of Wyoming Women's Volleyball Team, was selected on Thursday to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII Third Team. Hellbaum, who has earned a 3.62 cumulative grade-point average in communications, was one of eight individuals to earn Third Team honors.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team is a part of the Academic All-America program.

Wyoming Falls to Colorado State 3-0

The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss (23-30, 18-30, 27-30) to the Colorado State Rams on Wednesday night in Fort Collins. UW's record slips to 11-13 overall, 5-10 in the Mountain West Conference, while CSU's record improves to 18-5 overall, 11-2 in the MWC.

Cowgirl senior Rachel Smith continued to move up UW's career kills list, as she recorded a team-best 16 kills against the Rams.

Wyoming Volleyball to Face Colorado State Wednesday in Fort Collins

The Wyoming volleyball team will only play one match this week as they travel down to Fort Collins to take on the Colorado State Rams, on Wednesday, November 7. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.

In an unusual late-season break in Mountain West Conference play, the Cowgirls will not play another match until they host the Air Force Academy on November 16.
